Christiana Watkins (Community Health Educator)
Christiana Watkins is finishing her sophomore year at Cal State University Dominguez Hills. She is majoring in Community Health with a minor in Public Administration. She is the second youngest in her family and the first to go to college. She is a native of Southern California, growing up in Compton/ Watts area. It was important for her to stay close to home so that she could continue to support her younger brother.
She is currently a Peer Educator at Black Women for Wellness and a volunteer for other non-profits in the surrounding areas. She enjoys working as a Peer Educator because it allows her the freedom to work closely with youth who are just like res! It also allows her to think critically, interact with positive caring people. When volunteering at other non-profits she is usually taking, feeding or helping the homeless children, women, and men of Watts. Being apart of their Sunday mornings routines makes her extremely grateful. It is wonderful to take the time to get to know the people that are sometimes shunned in the community. Working and volunteering at non-profits gives her the fuel to continue to work hard in school and set good examples for her younger brother. After graduation in 2020, she hopes to get hired as a full-time employee at any caring and loving organization that is creating and empowering people to make a change, while working on her graduate degree at Charles R. Drew University.
