Position: Health Educator

Program: Sisters in Control Reproductive Justice (SCRJ) – Get Smart Before You Get Sexy

Supervisor: SCRJ - Program Manager

Work Schedule: 40 hrs./week FTE (Monday – Friday); Some nights & weekends as needed

Travel Required: Yes

Expected Hours: 40 hrs.

Status: Exempt

Salary Range:  $46,000 - $58,000

Primary Functions:

  • Responsible for facilitating sexual health education classes/trainings for partnered organizations and youth groups.
  • Research; analyze data; compiling reports.
  • Maintain and communicate developments relating to the program initiatives.
  • Assist in program and organizational.
  • Fundraising (Grants, Sponsorships, Fee-for-Service, Special Events).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for facilitating sexual health education classes for small youth groups.
  • Research; analyze data; compiling reports.
  • Maintain and communicate developments relating to the program initiatives.
  • Creating health-related materials, such as posters and websites.
  • Helping youth participants find the appropriate health services or information.
  • Advocating for improved health resources and policies.
  • Collecting data and other information to analyze needs and evaluate programs.
  • Preparing reports for management and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate Sexual health workshops.
  • Develop new ideas for workshops, materials, gaming, etc. 
  •  Assist with the development and implementation of sex education curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain professional contact/relationships with schools, community leaders as applicable. 
  • Light travel throughout California and nationally.
  • Heavy outreach work with community partners with the south Los Angeles area. 
  • Prioritize multiple projects and tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Other office duties as requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be non-judgmental and comfortable having conversations about sex and sexuality.
  • Social Media savvy and able to navigate various social media platforms i.e.: Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram; graphic design skills a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to excel at multi-tasking and working under pressure. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills (oral and written); demonstrates need and ability for growth.
  • Detail oriented, self-sufficient and ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact professionally with managers, co-workers, and other organizations. 
  • Self-starter, highly initiative and ability to work independently or within a team.  
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to deliver health education in a creative and engaging manner.

Education and Experience:

  • MPH preferred.
  • Will consider Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Health Education, Sociology, Psychology, Ethnic Studies, Social Work, Biology or Anthropology.
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience working in an environment dealing with or speaking about Sexual Health. 
  • Professional appearance and attitude.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and visit schools, agencies and community meetings.  Availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as required. 
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and a reliable and flexible means of transportation.
